HYBY Habit

Work and play

After six years of unique settings and playing host to international DJs across Newcastle, Habit are ending on a high with two final parties here at Hoults Yard.

Now for the long goodbye. We salute you! And we don’t want to see habit leaving without a bang.

For the full sob statement and details of the final two parties click here.

So Long (Part 1)

Saturday the 4th of December sees the Habit residents take over our intimate clubbing space – ThinkTank.

So Long (part 2)

Monday 27th of December with Steve Bug & Âme Live until 4am up in Warehouse 34.

For die hard fans Habit will be distributing a free completion, made solely for the closing parties with highlights from the last six years. Details to follow – keep checking the website.

Thanks go to Habit for setting the bar and we’ll see you soon for the final dance.

Happy customer – ThinkTank gallery

We like to make people happy.

We don’t always do it, particularly as we’ve invested over £1m in building works on the yard this year (sorry for the various dust/noise/dislocations. Really). One justification is that we continue to invest, create jobs and buzz here – despite the recession.

Atmospheric bar boudoir - Way to go, Gareth

Last weekend, we transformed the ThinkTank gallery space into a surprise cabaret venue with 60 seats, live music stage and an Epicurus buffet for 80. It was a surprise 50th birthday party for Gareth Williams, organised by his wife Kate, who is currently producing a Mark Knopfler documentary with NorthernUpstart.

Our full licence application for alcohol and entertainment is due for hearing at the City Council on 26.10.10 – at which point we will be free to take bookings. Bring it on, folks. Corporate Christmas?

Gareth was blindfolded from his house and driven to the happy throng – our cobbled road was the only giveaway, when he was just yards away.

Here’s what he had to say:

It was a great event, my surpise 50th Birthday Party! What I really mean is that the venue, lighting, layout, furnishing etc. was bang on. It’s a very cool location, relaxed and discreet, very close to the City, easy to find and park, get taxis from etc. Shawn was a superb MC, his team were great, the food from Epicurus was outstanding, Liam on sounds was first class and all these sentiments have been echoed by everyone who was there. Way to go, Hoults! I couldn’t have done it better myself! Do I get a discount?

Cheers, Gareth Williams, Film & TV Location Manager

AV Festival Finale – with DJ Legend Francois K

After a sell out success in October 2009 Hoults Yard is at it again with another eagerly awaited warehouse party. The venue will be transformed to communicate the AV festival’s theme of ENERGY and will showcase live visual projections coupled with a rare UK performance from legendary New York DJ, producer and record label owner FRANÇOIS K

François Kervorkian has done it all. Having started his career in the 1970’s at renowned clubs such as the Paradise Garage and Studio 54, he is widely considered as one of the forefathers of house music. He has mixed albums for Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode, remixed singles for artists such as The Eurhythmics, U2, Mick Jagger and Diana Ross, toured with Larry Levan and set up New York’s original Body & Soul parties with Joe Claussell and Danny Krivit. These days Kevorkian is known for keeping New York City up on a Monday night via his Deep Space residency. He also owns the Wave Music imprint and continues to DJ at the finest clubs and festivals worldwide.

It is genuinely difficult to think of anyone who has had a greater long term influence on dance music than François K. A true Pioneer, a true visionary.
