Gallery space at Hoults Yard

Among the interesting spaces at Hoults Yard that we’re opening up for events, there’s the gallery.

We’re pondering calling it Think Tank – because we’ve had quite a few discussions about holding art exhibitions, lectures, screenings and live music events. It’s a space with a big volume, due to the 5m ceiling height. And, we’re very interested at the yard thinking about fusion.

It’s available for temporary hire – although there are a few restrictions, we’re open to proposals.

The space is set out as two interconnecting rooms with exposed brick walls, big windows and natural light aplenty. The south-side space has garage-style, double doors which will be useful for access. The north-side has fab 3m windows to let in natural light. The combined floor area of ThinkTank is 1600 sq ft, so we’d anticipate a capacity of up to 300 people.

Think Tank has rudamentary electrics (ie a few sockets), but no running water, no fixed lighting and no loos. There are loos in the adjacent block – or you can park a Portaloo outside.

But, as a result of the lack of facilities, you get this pure rectangular spaces.

We can offer our own stock of furniture, bar/fridges, space dividers and (see pics) festoon lighting rigs.

But, basically, it’s another blank canvas waiting for creative ideas.

Building34 rocks to Habit warehouse party

Newcastle's only warehouse venue - Building34, Hoults Yard

On Friday Oct30th, we held a bit of an experiment at the yard. We hosted a club night with local promoter heroes Habit.

The night was a sell-out with 500 clubbers rocking Building34 with the help of superstar DJs Lee Burridge from London and Prins Thomas from Oslo from 10pm to 4am.

Building34 is now kitted out with proven soundproofing, bar and electrics to run music events, live shows and other entertainment. Anyone for comedy? While many will want to use the Q2 bus or hop from Byker metro.

We are ready to rock…

Railhead event space

Just to mention that our super top secret project continues apace – exploring the feasibility of converting the yard’s Railhead building into an event space. We’ve run a couple of 100+ person events in there recently and have architects exploring the compliance needs of fire safety, noise containment and loos, so that we can open the space to interested promoters, events teams, degree shows, expo’s.

You can see from the photos below that the space can accommodate many more than 200 people (the approx number at the Codeworks event). The space is over 7000 square feet, double height with rafters. It would make a lovely space for a dinner for 300 or more with the connections to Newcastle’s past as a leader in the industrial revolution.

At Codeworks Think and a Drink, photographer Paul Santos took some fab images. I’ve added a few below to give you a feel for the industrial scale and feel of the place:
