Panic like a Pro – event at cafe, Mar 15, 2011

One of the local business support organisations, Service Network, has offered to run a seminar in our Clocktower Cafe next Tuesday morning.

It’s on dealing with nerves: Panic like a Pro. (See attached)

With our very own Jack Lowe Studio on the yard, we know all about panic. I hope he won’t mind me mentioning that his grandpa, Arthur, is still a regular on TV in Dad’s Army. We have practically adopted the catchphrase ‘Don’t panic, Captain Mainwaring!’

If you’d like to join us for a bacon butty, a chinwag and some stress coaching – please RSVP. We can then get the list in with Tracy at the cafe!

Pike, Godfrey, Fraser…

PS. Do catch up with our other latest news on the blog: http://houltsyard.wordpress.com – some pics or our latest mural, by Belgian artist Roa. And an update on Hush’s street art project, which saw Brazilian Titifreak produce an exhibition here… we now have a list of street art gurus coming every two months.

PPS. We still have some fab loft-style offices available and great deals – due to recent renovations and juggling people around. Think Tardis meets Rubik’s Cube for the activity we’ve been up to so far in 2011… Welcome to folk like J6 Films, Screenreach, Smart Meter 4 U, Minster Cleaning Services, Red Square Group, Evive and Peruvian music man Eddie Puente de la Vega

In the making, Roa’s Four Horses of the Apocalypse… equine and also prehistoric dinosaurs…

Roa's Third Horse in the painting

One of the most interesting aspects of our murals project is that the person who spends the most time with the artist is actually Dougy, our Cherry Picker driver. He’s otherwise known as ‘Two Tellies’ because he walks around the yard on maintenance duties as if he has two televisions under his arms.

This time, he spent time up a height with Belgian puck, Roa – who refused to be drawn on the meanings of his animal-inspired art. He prefers others to read into it what they will.

Later this week, Hush, an artist with a studio at Hoults Yard, starts his series of art collaborations with Titifreak, a Brazilian artist. There’s a single evening when you can see the work, then it will be destroyed.

The murals will be around for longer… now KidAcne, Burgerman, Roa… next up Remi/Rough…

Interesting contrast - Hush's internal mural... let's see what he and Titifreak do this week?

Hoults half term nuuz

Doing our bit to market the creative cluster of Tyneside… in the words of our clients. See attached article from Ad Agency mag, The Drum.

We big up our clients. They big us up. Love in.

Just to let you know that we have a Belgian artist painting a new epic mural at the yard, as I type. His work is secret – but I’d say it’s looking like our best piece of street art yet. Haunting and beautiful. Impactful.

Next week, Brazilian artist Titifreak will be here – and you should’ve been invited to the opening on Thurs night. Sadly/luckily, my wife landed a lastminute.com holiday, so I’m being whisked away and will miss this important new opening for Carl Hush, one of our yard artist clients. But, there are at least 200 cool cats headed to the yard and it promises to be quite a unique spectacle. The roll-call of international artists now wanting to participate in future bi-monthlies… wow. If I could only point you to them all on Google. For a taster, click this: Herakut. A German-Indian couple.

Tickets are still available for Shindig’s launch with Radio 1 DJ Heidi for Feb 26. And, also for superstar French DJ Laurent Garnier, who is bringing his live act on Mar 12. Email me and I can put you on the guest list – we are stretching as far as creating a new back-bar with London warehouse party supremo’s Sancho Panza. This will not have any amps in and it will have plenty of seats. So old farts like me can schmooze and booze without banging music and gyrating nymphettes to distract you.

The Clock Tower cafe goes from strength to strength, especially with our new Francino Coffee Machine, fitted by our new coffee mechanic, based (would you believe it) on Holy Island… he’s now also supplying Rainforest Alliance coffee beans, roasted in Yorkshire, with share of profits to Children in Need in Sunderland. Feel better with every sip!

We have quite a few welcomes and expansions on the yard: Red Square Property; Smart Meters 4U; Storm Fitness; Re-Production TV.

You will also see our new Biz Dev Manager Julie Kemp around and about. She used to be Centre Manager at Regus Quayside so knows alot about customer service, managing our cleaners and the like.

Things seem to be working like clockwork for 2011. Long may that continue.

For anyone who’s got this far, who enjoyed our World Cup in a Warehouse event last year… we are thinking of holding an afternoon of Urban Golf in June. 9 or 12 holes from the Toffee Factory site, around the Ouseburn, finishing with a pitch out of St Lawrence Square park and into the yard. It should be ridiculously stupid and fun, probably as PR-able as the warehouse event (where we won PRIDE NE Event of the Year)… and we ought to do it all for good causes.

Click here to read about Urban Golf. And, no, of course we haven’t asked for permission yet. But, I’ll be doing my risk assessment document over the half-term holidays. Honest, Mr Stephen P Savage!

Have a good one.

Street art exclusive: Feb 24 Hush and Titifreak

This is an invitation to a very exclusive international art exhibition which is taking place in Newcastle – on Thurs Feb 24.

It’s a chance to see Newcastle people collaborating on a world stage with world famous artists – and a chance to acquire highly collectable modern art in a one-off environment.

The street art scene has grown massively over recent years with the emergence of talent like Banksy, such that graffiti art prices have sky-rocketed. Newcastle’s own Hush is now working with agents in LA, San Franscisco, New York, London and Melbourne. He has taken a studio at Hoults Yard so that he can bring his contemporaries from all over the world for a series of joint projects. Hush is paying for these artists to come to Newcastle where they will paint together, produce a unique piece, a short-run print series… and a one-off opening.

You are invited to the launch of this series with Brazilian artist TitiFreak.

Later in the year, there are a few other artists coming to Hoults Yard:
