So KidAcne is offered a section of wall at the yard. He says ‘I’ll take the lot’. He’s now fast at work on the biggest piece of street art graffiti he’s ever done. This is anticipation of his exhibition which starts on July1st at Elektric Sheep.
They are documenting the painting session on a dedicated website: www.thehoultsyardproject.co.uk
I’m told there are more exciting graffiti artists in store. Ready walls, Prefab77 guidance and Lazarides Gallery just a few yards from here. Watch the walls!
Weird and wonderful – art and projects

In the last few years, Hoults Yard has never been busier. We’ve got a host of new creative clients signing up with the likes of Boom Creative, Sole Heaven and more. Welcome all!
Everywhere, there’s what I call ‘breakthrough projects’ going on. By ‘breakthrough’, I mean that Hoults Yard is hosting an array of talent that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any media-creative work going on anywhere in the world today. That’s no mean boast for Tyneside, where historically there’s been a self-consciousness about provincialism and alot of hand-wringing about the glory days of old media.
Just talk for 15mins and you’ll be treated to tales of international travel or cutting edge creative with Picture Canning, Mere Mortals, NFM, Laura Lancaster, Jack Lowe or Dan Holdsworth. And the rest… if only I had more than 15 mins to pick up with all the entrepreneurs that flood the cafe at lunchtimes!
I thought it couldn’t get much wackier when Andy Smith told me about his martial arts documentary fitting out his gym with a tomahawk throwing range, but then he took delivery of a brand spanking set of ‘sharpened throwing shovels’.
But, I can top that. Last week, Claire from the Clocktower Cafe, booked a long awaited monent of downtime with me. Little do we know that she moonlights as a performance artist. And, for one so quiet and charming, her blog is titled ‘Megalomaniac22′! Click thru and you will discover that her current plan is to train as a Wall of Death rider – and I’ve offered the yard as the host venue! Vvvvrrrroooom vvvvvrrroooom!
And, no, this wasn’t the furthest ‘out there’. Watch our walls in the weeks ahead and you may see a bit of action from street artists. The Tyneside collective Prefab77 is well linked to a host of international ‘graff’ specialists and we’re working on curating an interesting collection to appear around the yard. From ThinkTank gallery space to graffiti TestBed… likely first contender at the starting spray can… KidAcne.
And, over my fish n chips on Friday, I was tapped up about studio space for a new special project involving live insects. I can’t tell you more, but it certainly ranks with the rest of the week for ‘far out’.
