HYBY Habit

Work and play

After six years of unique settings and playing host to international DJs across Newcastle, Habit are ending on a high with two final parties here at Hoults Yard.

Now for the long goodbye. We salute you! And we don’t want to see habit leaving without a bang.

For the full sob statement and details of the final two parties click here.

So Long (Part 1)

Saturday the 4th of December sees the Habit residents take over our intimate clubbing space – ThinkTank.

So Long (part 2)

Monday 27th of December with Steve Bug & Âme Live until 4am up in Warehouse 34.

For die hard fans Habit will be distributing a free completion, made solely for the closing parties with highlights from the last six years. Details to follow – keep checking the website.

Thanks go to Habit for setting the bar and we’ll see you soon for the final dance.

August Bank Holiday – all dayer line-up news

The quest for a fest continues… we have street art, we have fine art, we have live music, we have TV, we have venue space, we have licensing… They haven’t all come together yet, but we do have a little bank holiday cracker for you…

We are starting on a relatively small scale in 2010 with habit‘s outdoor terrace and warehouse party on Sunday August 29 from 4pm to 4am.

We have space for 1000 revellers so, in festival terms, this is an exclusive ticket. Buy them here.

As ever, Scott and Danny of habit have invited a clutch of DJs who don’t get big exposure in the NorthEast – and certainly, with seven sets, you won’t have seen them play together in this combo all summer.

Belgian-based Aeroplane were playing Sonar this year, so they gotta be good.

Dixon is ranked by some as a World Top 10 DJ. Nice.

The Revenge, Trus’me, and Leeds Lunar Jam resident Craig Christon bring it on with residents Mark Johnson/Si Quick.

I do hope you’ll be there at the start of our outdoor. And, if not, pray for bright weather and plenty of smiles…

Habit: North’s top warehouse parties – Fri Jul 2

The boys from Habit are back at Hoults Yard, Building34, this Friday night to keep us all on our toes.

They have so far had DJs from Oslo, New York, Berlin, London, Hamburg.

Next up, this Friday July 2, is Carl Craig. He’s from Detroit. Sorry to be square by giving you his wikipedia page, rather than full banging discography on Myspace…

You can order tickets online - there are still a few to go as it’s not quite payday.

The Guardian ranked this night as the North’s best outing of the week. The Independent has us in the Top Ten.

You may be pleased to know that Carl Craig is 41yrs old. You are never too young to disco!

AV Festival Finale – with DJ Legend Francois K

After a sell out success in October 2009 Hoults Yard is at it again with another eagerly awaited warehouse party. The venue will be transformed to communicate the AV festival’s theme of ENERGY and will showcase live visual projections coupled with a rare UK performance from legendary New York DJ, producer and record label owner FRANÇOIS K

François Kervorkian has done it all. Having started his career in the 1970’s at renowned clubs such as the Paradise Garage and Studio 54, he is widely considered as one of the forefathers of house music. He has mixed albums for Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode, remixed singles for artists such as The Eurhythmics, U2, Mick Jagger and Diana Ross, toured with Larry Levan and set up New York’s original Body & Soul parties with Joe Claussell and Danny Krivit. These days Kevorkian is known for keeping New York City up on a Monday night via his Deep Space residency. He also owns the Wave Music imprint and continues to DJ at the finest clubs and festivals worldwide.

It is genuinely difficult to think of anyone who has had a greater long term influence on dance music than François K. A true Pioneer, a true visionary.
