Charlie Hoult runs Newcastle’s media village, Hoults Yard. He is the fourth generation of the family to operate at the 10-acre site, which has evolved from jam jar through logistics depot to today’s hub of creative businesses: innovation is core Hoult family value! The Yard houses some 50 different businesses including network TV producers, digital media artists, iPad application developers, fashion designers, software engineers, advertising photographers, film editors… These entrepreneurs have an international profile and reach, as well as significant national and local traction.

Charlie’s latest initiative includes developing a significant cultural programme at Hoults Yard – a street art collection of murals, a music venue hosting opera through techno music, studios for film shoots and art projects.

Prior to his recent return to the NorthEast, Charlie ran his own business, Loewy, a £50m marketing group that he grew with a combination of venture-backed acquisitions into a major ‘new model’ agency with 400 staff offering brand design, corporate communications and public relations. He was nominated as CBI Entrepreneur of the Year 2007.

Charlie acts as a consultant to high growth digital and media businesses. He is chairman of Futureheads (www.wearefutureheads.co.uk), a specialist recruiter focused on web design niches of user experience, project management and front-end design.
