Last Friday sawRadio4 visit Hoults Yard for the live broadcast of their flagship current affairs panel, Any Questions?.
We had an audience of some 300 members of the public and, aside from the broadcast, entertained the crowd with a performance by Streetwise Opera, the singing charity that we support with rehearsal space at the yard.Jonathan Dimbleby presented the panel discussion of news and politics. On the panel were: David Davis, Conservative MP; Rachel Reeves, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury; Matthew Parris, columnist and broadcaster, and Jeremy Browne, Minister of State at the Foreign Office. It was interesting to note that Leeds MP Rachel Reeves was supported in the audience by her in-laws. Her father-in-law was an early trustee of our neighbour, the National Centre for Children’s Literature, Seven Stories.
We were very impressed that both Jonathan Dimbleby and Matthew Parris were drawn to the front as Streetwise performed the SouthAfrican national anthem. Both singing along!
They could’ve hopped into the waiting cars to return to their hotel, but instead waited to congratulate the singers.
